Assisting with ascertaining the opening financial position which not only includes funds transferred from the Local Authority, but also pension scheme assets/liabilities and fixed assets values.
Preparation of the year end statutory accounts to meet Charity Act, Company Act and YPLA/Department for Education reporting requirements.
Annual audit of the statutory accounts in accordance with International Standards on Auditing (UK and Ireland).
Advising on the implications of the accounting standard FRS 17 in respect of the Local Government and Teachers’ Pension Schemes. Company Law.
Ensuring the Academy’s statutory affairs are complete and up-to-date.
Advising the Academy’s Governors on their responsibilities as Company Directors and Charity Trustees.
Responsible Officer (RO)
Assisting the Academy’s Responsible Officer or being appointed as the RO.
Completion of the termly financial checks, as set out in the Academies Financial Handbook, on behalf of the RO. (Refer overleaf on specific work we can carry out if appointed RO, or asked to assist with RO role).
Management reporting
Assessing the capabilities of the Academy’s accounting software package and recommending changes, for example, modification of the chart of accounts to meet management and statutory reporting needs.
Ensuring the management reports meet the users’ needs in order to comply with good governance, whilst minimising the burden on the Academy’s finance team.
Assistance in the preparation and filing of financial and statutory returns to governmental and regulatory bodies, including those to the Department for Education and the YPLA.
